IV ketamine at the spa-like clinic in New York proved a dramatically different experience from the injection + lozenge combo with Dr. K.
It’s hard to completely isolate the effects of the medication itself from the context of its administration. Did I feel more relaxed going under with the knowledge that someone was observing me and would be there in case of emergency and to assist my comedown? Probably. Was it a lower dose than what Dr. K gave me? Probably.
I was in a significantly altered state of consciousness, and I forgot my limbs and my body, but I never lost the sense that “I” existed as an individual entity. Instead of only seeing colors and patterns, I saw flashes of the outside world and life as I knew it.
